Check the website for hours, not Google, because the hours change depending on time of year. Anyway, must see! Take time to understand the orientation of the map of the house. Marvel at the 8,000 year old diety icons.

These are the best preserved Neolithic ruins in Europe, dating back to the 6th millennium BCE (8000 years)! Honestly, if you don’t understand what you are seeing, and cannot be bothered to learn - please don’t leave a review! It’s really a shame this site does not get as many visitors as better known sites - not only are the ruins impressive, but the artifacts in the small museum are some of the best I’ve seen anywhere. And to have been built in 1979, the surrounding purpose built structure blends with the ruins beautifully, never overwhelming the main attraction - but make sure you check out the craftsmanship in the doors. The museum also sells amazing Neolithic souvenirs, they’ve commissioned an artist to create them along with a certificate of authenticity. The staff are clearly passionate about their museum and will be happy to share their knowledge. This should be a “must see” for visitors to Stara Zagora, it would be great if there were more signage around the city. And finally, they are in the process of producing a video that will help bring the site to life. A very impressive museum that continues to improve the visitor experience.

Ask to hear the guide - he's an encyclopedia and a fine narrator who participated in the process of studying this gem. There are two floors - the one with the dwellings remains and a museum part. You'll need a bit over one hour to have a good look and hear the story.

Horrible little place! It costs 5 leva to see what is basically a mound of dirt and a room of pottery and some small figurines with no explanation other than Bulgarian. Photos are not allowed, though I managed to sneak one of the mound of dirt and if you want to actually understand anything what you see you need to pay an extra 2 leva for a small booklet in English. Add to that the fact that this so called musuen is 2 kilometers from the center in an area full of gypsies and some sad communist buildings which make the experience even worse. Artefacts themselves are nice, albeit few and very small, put in glass containers that look like they were never cleaned since the fall of Communism. Save your time and money and don't bother with this!
